LUANAR Diploma Application Form 2022-2023

1.Preliminary information for interested applicants

a. Minimum generic entry requirements for admissions into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine:

First year

a.A-Levels with a minimum grade of “B” in Chemistry, Biology/Zoology and either Physics or Mathematics or equivalents obtained in the current year or the previous two years; Or

b.Completion of at least one year of an accredited BSc. programme in a Biological field with an overall grade of a credit/GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) and individual credit passes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Or

c.Candidates should have completed 2 years of an accredited Diploma programme in Veterinary Medicine or Biological Sciences with an overall grade of a credit/GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) and individual credit passes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics; Or

d.A first degree in Biological Sciences with an overall grade of credit/GPA of 3.0 obtained from a recognized institution; Or

e.A Diploma in Veterinary Science or Medicine obtained from an accredited institution of higher learning with an overall grade of a credit/GPA of 3.0 and individual credit passes in Biology/Zoology, Chemistry, Physical Science/Physics and Mathematics. These candidates must also have O-Level credit passes in English Language, Physical Science/Physics, Biology/Zoology, Chemistry and Mathematics; Or

Any other year

f.Candidates from other accredited Veterinary Faculties/Schools doing a similar programme may join the LUANAR programme at any stage upon providing satisfactory evidence that they passed all the required courses at a level just below the one being applied for. These candidates shall be subjected to further assessments through oral interviews and written examinations.

b.Minimum generic entry requirements for the rest of the programmes: Successful candidates with A-Levels shall join the 2nd year all LUANAR programmes and the Foundation year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Programme

c.Further requirements: Candidates must also meet the specific entry requirements for each faculty/programme as outlined under the programme details section of UGME-2022-2023 application form for mature entry candidates and UGCDB-2022-2023 application form for diploma candidates.

d.Exclusion: Candidates who were withdrawn from any Public University in Malawi on academic grounds and those already registered with any Public University in Malawi are not eligible for admission.

Luanar also admits international students into its programmes. Currently, all undergraduate international students are admitted under the same conditions as Malawian students. Successful international candidates are required to submit police clearance reports from their countries of origin and pay USD100 processing fee for a study permit, during their registration at LUANAR.

2.Programmes on offer

a.All applicants for undergraduate diploma programmes are required to submit their applications using UGCDB-2022-2023 application form.

b.All applicants for mature entry bachelors programmes are required to submit their application using UGME-2022-2023 application form.

a.The address for submitting application forms is: The University Registrar, LUANAR, Bunda Campus, P.O. Box 219, Lilongwe, (Attention Admissions Office). The application forms can be downloaded from www.luanar.ac.mw and from the following LUANAR Official Updates Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/luanarupdates/

b.A complete application package MUST include: (INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS SHALL NOT BE PROCESSED!)

i.An appropriate application form as indicated under sections 2a or 2b of this call for applications;

ii.Copies of all relevant degrees/diplomas/certificates/academic transcripts which have been indicated on the application form. These must be duly certified as true copies of the originals by a recognized Commissioner of Oaths.

iii.Original proof of availability of funds for training i.e. official sponsorship letter.

iv.Proof of payment of an appropriate application fee bearing the name of the applicant and the amount of application fee paid.

v.Curriculum vitae (CV) with names and contact details of three traceable referees (only for mature applicants).

vi.Official work reference letter(s) from the current and/or previous employer(s) showing proof of at least 2 years’ post-diplomarelevant work experience (only for mature entry applicants).

c.All applicants are strictly required to deposit a non-refundable application fee of K5, 500.00 for Malawian and USD200.00 for international applicants to one of the following BUNDA FEES BANK ACCOUNTS:

Annual tuition fees (the fees may change anytime)

All admissions shall be on a self-sponsored basis hence candidates should be prepared to meet all the other costs associated with their studies.

2. PROGRAMMES ON OFFER

a.All applicants for undergraduate generic bachelor’s programmes are required to submit their applications using

UGCDB-2022-2023 application form.

b.All applicants for mature entry bachelors programmes are required to submit their application using UGME- 2022-2023 application form.

3. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

a.The address for submitting application forms is The University Registrar, LUANAR, Bunda Campus, P.O. Box 219, Lilongwe, (Attention Admissions Office). The application forms can be downloaded from www.luanar.ac.mw and from the following LUANAR Official Updates Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/luanarupdates/. Application forms can also be obtained from City campus MACOHA and Area 36 Energem campuses.

b.A complete application package MUST include:

i.An appropriate application form as indicated under sections 2 of this call for applications (UGCDB-2022-2023for generic and UGME-2022-2023for mature entry);

ii. Copies of all relevant certificates and academic transcripts which are being used for the application. These must be duly certified by a Commissioner of Oaths as true copies of the originals;

iii. Source of funding i.e. official scholarship award/sponsorship letter;

iv. Reference letters from current or former employers showing proof of at least 2 years relevant work experience

(for mature entry applicants);

v. Proof of payment of an appropriate application fee bearing the name of the applicant and the amount of application fee paid.

vi. Proof of English Language proficiency for international candidates whose first language is not English
