Our Promise to Customers
Airtel Malawi has a deep and long-standing priority of delivering the best products and services to our customers. We share in the joy and pain of our customers and endeavour to deliver the widest, fastest, most reliable and affordable voice and data network. Our promise is to give our customers an exceptional experience and provide access to innovative products. We will continue to invest in our network, products and our people to deliver an unparalleled service to customers.
Our committed team works hard to ensure that the company remains on the cutting edge of technology and is able to provide access to products and services that make communication easier, faster and more affordable. We are working tirelessly to connect Malawians to every corner of the country and the globe.
At the heart and soul of our business is our ambition to win customers for life and be the preferred service provider. We help Government develop the ICT sector as an enabler of socio-economic development whilst supporting the aspirations of local communities. We bring a better quality of life to Malawians through enhanced digital connectivity.
Our Contribution to Society
Our impact goes beyond delivering superior customer service. Since 1999 Airtel has been ingrained in the fibre of Malawi and has been firmly aligned to the aspirations of our local communities. Our approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is not transactional. We believe that to make a real impact CSR should be strategic, build long-term partnerships and be for the mutual benefit of the company and its beneficiaries. This approach ensures that as Airtel Malawi grows, the communities it supports grows with it – both socially and economically.
Airtel Malawi has taken a particular focus on the education and health sectors due to the role they play in the alleviation of poverty and the promotion of social cohesion. As a leading mobile telecommunication and financial services provider, we use our resources to improve the quality of education and access to quality healthcare in public sector institutions for the under-resourced and disadvantaged communities in the country.
We also recognise that from time to time there may be a need to support just causes that are outside of education and healthcare. To that end, we incorporate youth and other environmentally conscious or conservation initiatives as an effective way in which we can play the active citizen role in Malawi. For example, in support of the Department of Disaster Management’s disaster relief and recovery efforts following the recent floods, we donated K20 million. Additionally, in 2017, we committed to sponsoring a top 8 football competition worth K198 million, over 3 years.
Education
Airtel Malawi is a long term supporter of the Adopt a School project. The beneficiary schools that we have adopted are Salima Primary School in Salima and Masenjere Primary School in Nsanje. The students at these schools have benefited from our support in the construction of school blocks, provision of desks, teacher and learner materials as well as other educational resources.
Through our “Touching lives” journey, we have donated state of the art computers with 4G MiFi routers preloaded with 100GB data to various technical and community colleges across the country and have so far made donations to Lilongwe Technical in Lilongwe, Milonga Community Technical in Thyolo, Kapondo Community Technical in Mchinji; and Chilobwe Community Technical College in Blantyre. We have also supported an organisation called Tingathe Mitchana ya Geni Youths in Ntandire in Lilongwe by setting up a K6 million revolving loan fund to be used to provide start-up capital loans to 28 young graduates from Tingathe’s skills programmes on an annual basis. Tingathe is a local Non-Governmental Organisation focused on the provision of vocational, technical and entrepreneurship training designed to prepare our school youth in Ntandile, Lilongwe for productive community life.
Health
We improve access to quality healthcare through supporting public health institutions with various medical resources including medicine and equipment. Through leveraging the use of our own mobile telecommunications technology infrastructure, we are able to provide innovative programmes such as the Ministry of Health & Village Reach’s Chipatala Cha pa Foni (CCPF) – Health Centre by Phone service and the VSO Malawi’s unlocking talent primary school programme for standard 1 & 2 learners. We have also donated reusable sanitary pads to various Primary Schools in Lilongwe, Lirangwe and Ntchisi.
